KUALA LUMPUR – The government has finally made clear that those who have medical appointments do not need to apply for a police permit, saying appointment cards are enough to get them through road blocks.

In a statement today, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this decision was made taking into account public complaints and grumblings over the matter.

“Many have said getting a police permit to travel for medical appointments is an inconvenience for those who have scheduled medical treatments, such as for cancer and kidney disease.

“It is sufficient for patients who have made doctor bookings and scheduled treatments to bring along their appointment cards.”

Meanwhile, Kluang district in Johor will be placed under the movement control order (MCO) from May 11 to 24, following 512 cases recorded between May 4 and yesterday.

So far, the Health Ministry has carried out 3,867 tests on residents. There are also four active clusters in the district and a positivity rate of 13%.

“With the MCO, all inter-district and interstate travel to and from Kluang is prohibited,” he said.

Kg Keramat in Semporna, Sabah, will be placed under enhanced MCO from May 11 to 24 following 10 cases from 101 screening tests.

In addition, 493 individuals were detained for violating the SOPs, of which 480 were issued with compounds and 13 remanded.

Some 214 offences involved failure to record details when entering premises while 16 were caught for activities at entertainment centres, not wearing face masks (84), no physical distancing (52), and others (127).

“The government has ordered the police to increase SOP monitoring in states and locations on the Hotspots Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) list.” – The Vibes, May 9, 2021
