MIRI – The Miri City Council has imposed a 50% limit on the number of shoppers allowed into shopping outlets in the city as part of the enhanced control measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 infections.

The enhanced standard operating procedures (SOPs) covers all shopping malls, supermarkets and department stores, said the council in a statement.

“We allow shopping premises to continue to operate but on condition there must be a 50 percent limit on the number of shoppers allowed inside the premises or half of the normal crowd capacity,” said the council.

It also said that individual recreation and sports activities are allowed, but not group activities.

Among the other enhanced SOPs is a citywide ban on seminars, meetings, conferences, training workshops and similar gatherings in venues like hotels, community halls, convention centres and public as well as private offices.

Those heading to public places cannot be in a group of more than five at a time and they must maintain social distancing.

Gyms are not allowed to operate, as are massage centres, karaokes and other entertainment centres.

Sarawak continues to record an increase in Covid-19 clusters, fatalities and infections statewide.
