MIRI – Sarawak recorded two new Covid-19 deaths today, both at Miri Hospital, and 749 new infections statewide as the battle against the virus rages on.
“With the latest fatalities confirmed today, the Covid-19 death toll in Sarawak has reached 249,” the state Disaster Management Committee (DMC) secretariat said in a statement, in addition to extending condolences to the families of the deceased.
The two latest deaths in Miri Hospital involved a 75-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man.
The secretariat also revealed that 749 new infections were recorded statewide today.
Kuching district registered 149 new cases, followed by Sibu (125), Miri (93), Mukah (79), Kanowit (49), Bintulu (48), Belaga (37), Sri Aman (24), Samarahan (21), Kapit (20), Selangau (16), and other districts (less than 15 cases each). There are now 80 Covid-19 clusters statewide.
The DMC said an enhanced MCO has been implemented in the Rumah Keli longhouse in Sarikei district due to the rise in infections among the natives there.
It reminded the people of Sarawak to obey all standard operating procedures in place, and to help the authorities to reduce the infection spread in order to stamp out the surge in new cases and fatalities. – The Vibes, May 22, 2021
