PETALING JAYA - Malaysia recorded 589 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, bringing the total number of infections nationwide to 18,129. 

About 586 infections were locally transmitted while three were imported, according to the Ministry of Health. 

Currently there are 5,945 active cases with 103 of them seeking intensive care and 31 on ventilator support.

Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said four new clusters were identified today, namely the Olive Cluster, the Bah Pasir Cluster, the Bah Pengkalan Cluster, and the Saguking cluster.

"The Olive cluster started with the index case returning from Sabah. The index case tested positive on October 2, and was admitted to the Sungai Buloh Hospital. Through contact tracing, where 16 more Covid-19 positive cases were identified," he said.

For the Bah Pasir cluster, Noor Hisham said the index case of this cluster was found positive upon returning from Sabah on October 8, and was admited to Hospital Tuanku Jaafar, Seremban. Contact tracing was then conducted and four more positive cases were identified.

"As of October 15, as many as 82 individuals were screeneed, where five were found positive, and 74 individuals negative, while three more await results," he said.

Noor Hisham added, the Bah Pengkalan cluster in Perak was identified after the index case who returned from Sabah tested positive on October 8, and was subsequently admitted to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, in Ipoh.

"Contact tracing has identified five more positive cases. As of October 15, as many as 330 individuals have been screened, where six tested positive, 47 negative, while 277 await for results," he said.

For the Saguking cluster, Noor Hisham said the index case was identified as positive as part of a screening by Labuan Hospital on October 11. Contact tracing then identified four more positive cases.

"As of today (October 15), as many as 43 individuals have been screened, where five tested positive, three negative, while 35 await their results," he added.

He also said the Utama Cluster has recorded 105 new cases, which now totals up to 132 cases recorded by the Health Ministry.

"The shopping mall is closed from October 11 to October 16 for sanitation and cleaning processes. Contact tracing and active case detection is still ongoing," he said. - The Vibes, October 15, 2020
