KOTA BELUD – Sabah politician Philip Among who has claimed trial to five counts of sexual assault may be slapped with two more charges.
One charge is under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and the second, for flouting Covid-19 standard operating procedures under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said investigation papers have already been submitted to the attorney-general (AG) for further action.
“We have completed our probe and the investigation papers have already been passed to the AG.
“It will be up to the AG to charge him,” he said when met here today.
A police report was lodged against the suspended Sabah Star Putatan parliamentary coordinator for not wearing a face mask during the recently concluded Kaamatan Harvest Festival.
Among, 52, has pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to five counts of sexual assault under Section 354 of the Penal Code at the Kota Kinabalu magistrates’ court yesterday.
He was accused of using criminal force in outraging the modesty of two women on several occasions throughout the recent Unduk Ngadau harvest festival competition.
Section 354 relates to the offence of assault or use of criminal force to a person with intent to outrage the person’s modesty.
The offence is punishable upon conviction with up to 10 years’ jail or fine or whipping, or any two of such punishments. – The Vibes, June 11, 2021
