KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong this morning granted an audience to Special Independent Emergency Committee (SIEC) chairman Tun Arifin Zakaria.
Arifin was spotted at Istana Negara’s Gate 2 before 10am, reported Astro Awani.
He was seen leaving the palace at 12.10pm.
This comes after a series of high-level meetings the king had with political party leaders that started last week.
Among the topics discussed were the emergency called over Covid-19 and the government’s handling of the pandemic.
Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is also scheduled to meet the heads of other royal households at a special Conference of Rulers meeting tomorrow.
SIEC, set up under Section 2 of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021, has members from sectors including law, security, politics, healthcare, trade and academia.
Some of its members are former chief secretary to the government Tan Sri Samsudin Osman, former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Norian Mai, cardiologist Tan Sri Dr Yahya Awang, Sunsuria Bhd chairman Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap, Perlis Mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, Tg Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar, former women’s development minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, former transport minister Anthony Loke and former health minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. – The Vibes, June 15, 2021
