FORMER prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been granted a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.
This was decided by the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya which was held today.
Under the conditional pardon, Najib will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to him paying a fine of RM50 million.
He must comply with all conditions imposed under the conditional pardon.
Failure to comply with any of the conditions will result in the conditional pardon being revoked, after which Najib will immediately resume serving the remainder of his sentence in prison.
“If he fails to comply with any of those conditions, this conditional pardon shall be revoked, and he must immediately resume serving the remainder of his sentence in prison,” the statement from the Pardons Board read.
The Pardons Board last week deferred Najib's pardon application at the sitting chaired by His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
Najib began serving a 12-year jail sentence in August 2022 after being convicted of graft linked to a subsidiary of 1MDB.
The Pardons Board halved his sentence in 2024 and reduced his fine to RM50 million from RM210 million.
In December 2025, he was convicted of abuse of power and money laundering involving more than RM2 billion linked to 1MDB and was sentenced to 15 years' jail and fined RM11.38 billion.
The former prime minister is appealing this conviction. - September 18, 2026
