FORMER prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has yet to pay the RM50 million fine imposed as a condition for serving the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said there was no time limit for payment, but Najib would remain behind bars for as long as the fine remained outstanding.

“As long as the fine has not been paid, Datuk Seri Najib will remain in prison,” he told reporters.

He was speaking after the launch of the Attorney-General’s Chambers MADANI Adopted School programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pasir Hor here today.

The conditional pardon granted by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim allows Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine.

The decision was announced by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department following a meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board chaired by the King.

Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, had previously said his client could not afford to pay the fine, which was one of the conditions attached to the house arrest arrangement.

Umno later launched the Najib Solidarity Fund to help raise the amount, appealing to party leaders, members and supporters to contribute towards the payment. - November 1, 2026
