KUALA LUMPUR – The Covid-19 pandemic has made life much harder for residents of the Kota Warisan People’s Housing Project (PPR).
This was evident to Selayang MP William Leong during his visit to the flats housing B40 folk yesterday afternoon.
Together with a sanitisation team led by Selayang Municipal Council member U Chin Ong, the lawmaker said they were at the PPR to assist those infected by the coronavirus.
“Here at (the) Kota Warisan PPR, 16 families have confirmed Covid-19 cases, and we have come to help,” Leong told The Vibes.
“Out of these families, one family that had five confirmed cases saw three succumbing to the virus.”
He singled out the families of three individuals, one of them being Yim Nyok Moi.
Yim, who has just been discharged from Selayang Hospital after her battle with Covid-19, is devastated at losing her husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law to the disease.
She is left with her 17-year-old daughter Woong Kar, who is facing the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.
“Yim and her husband used to sell noodles to earn an income, but now that her husband is gone, she has no idea what to do,” said Leong.
“I have asked her to come to my office to see what we can do to help. But the main point here is that the breadwinner has passed away.
“The government needs to act quickly. For each day’s delay, people will die.”
Tarmizi Kamaruddin, assistant to Taman Templer assemblyman Mohd Sany Hamzan, said the Selangor government will give Yim RM500 in bereavement aid for senior citizens under its Skim Mesra Usia Emas.
Leong took a swipe at Putrajaya for its incompetence in handling the national vaccination programme.
“We have a government that isn’t listening to the king when it comes to reopening Parliament.
“No one buys the excuse that Parliament can’t sit because of Covid-19.
“All the MPs and Parliament staff have been vaccinated, so what’s the point of vaccinating us if we can’t do our work?” – The Vibes, June 19, 2021
