GEORGE TOWN – Chow Kon Yeow and Datuk Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah’s in-person meeting at Komtar recently is believed to be the first between DAP and Umno in Penang since the former took the state in the 2008 general election.

Their meeting was primarily to discuss issues faced by residents in Teluk Bahang and Batu Ferringhi.

Balik Pulau Umno chief Shah Headan said he felt the need to help members of the public affected by police roadblocks.

“The roadblocks have made it difficult for residents in Teluk Bahang and Batu Ferringhi to access basic facilities, such as ATMs, petrol stations and so on.

“They have to go to Balik Pulau via a hillside road that is quite far and dangerous.”

Teluk Bahang in Southwest district shares the coastline with Batu Ferringhi in Northeast district.

Shah Headan said Chief Minister Chow had no problem moving the roadblocks to more strategic areas to enable residents to access facilities closer to home.

Police, too, welcomed the idea, he said.

“Once again, I thank the state government for its cooperation and political maturity in prioritising solutions for the people.

“Leaders, regardless of their political parties, need to work together and put the people’s interests first.” – The Vibes, June 24, 2021
