KUALA LUMPUR – The targeted enhanced movement control order (Temco) imposed on Alor Star Prison, which had been due to end today, has been extended till November 1, said Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The senior minister, in his daily update, said the extension follows a request from Kedah authorities and is on the advice of the Health Ministry.
“Until October 17, 2020, a total of 1,178 Covid-19 cases were detected there, involving 1,137 inmates and 41 prison personnel.
“The Temco extension will enable continued monitoring and screening, so that the infection chain at Alor Star Prison can be broken.”
He said police have arrested 661 people for breaching health and safety standard operating procedures, of whom 632 were fined and 27 remanded, while two have posted bail.
The bulk of the offences is for not wearing a mask (223), he said, followed by failure to observe social distancing (191), businesses not providing record-keeping equipment (112), flouting SOPs in conditional movement control order areas (75) and activities in entertainment centres (45). – The Vibes, October 18, 2020
