GEORGE TOWN – Police have clarified that it was indeed their officers who were involved in a purported raid at a high-end condominium here, where the female occupant prevented the cops from entering the premises.

The incident, which was broadcast live on Facebook, showed the woman preventing the officers from entering for up to 60 minutes.

She even brought children to the door to show police that there was no “dangerous” person inside.

Nilai district police chief Mohd Fazley Ab Rahman confirmed in a statement that it was his men, alongside two officers from the George Town district contingent, who were involved in the raid in search of a suspect in a cheating case.

Despite the plainclothes policemen flashing their badges, the woman only allowed the officers to enter after two uniformed officers showed theirs.

“How do I know? They may be fake badges,” the woman retorted in the clip, which has since gone viral, particularly across the Penang social media scene.

“There were no arrests or seizure of items as the man we were looking for in the case was not at home.

“We would like to advise the public to not sensationalise this issue when we are merely carrying out our jobs,” Fazley said, adding that investigations are ongoing until the suspect is caught. – The Vibes, July 13, 2021
