KUALA LUMPUR – 1Malaysia Development Bhd’s (1MDB) amended writ and statement of claim has included fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho’s brother and mother as defendants.

Jho Low’s brother, Low Taek Szen, is accused of receiving US$27.5 million from Global Diversified Investment, while his mother Goh Gaik Ewe allegedly received jewellery valued at US$1.695 million.

According to the amended court documents filed on July 6, 1MDB Energy Holdings Limited, 1MDB Energy Limited, 1MDB Energy (Langat) Limited, and Global Diversified Investment Company Limited (formerly 1MDB Global Investments) were added as plaintiffs.

Based on the statement of claim, Taek Szen’s last address was Scenic Garden, Kotewall Road, Hong Kong, while Goh’s last address was Tg Bungah in Penang.

The statement of claim asserts that the jewellery can be traced to monies from 1MDB Energy and 1MDB Energy (Langat).

Other defendants who were previously included in the suit were Jho Low’s friend Tan Kim Loong, father Larry Low Hock Peng, and sister Low May Lin.

Previously, 1MDB initially sought US$1.03 billion from Jho Low, US$41 million from Tan, US$ 328 million from Larry Low, and US$3.5 million from May Lin.

Now, with the amended document, 1MDB is seeking US$660.75 million from Jho Low, while the company also seeks US$41 million from Tan and Jho Low “jointly and severally”.

1MDB is also attempting to claim US$324.75 million from Jho Low and Larry, as well as US$3.5 million from Jho Low and May Lin.

Meanwhile, 1MDB Energy Limited and 1MDB (Langat) are seeking US$1.09 billion from Jho Low and Tan “jointly and severally”, as well as US$1 million from Jho Low, Tan, and Goh for the pieces of jewellery allegedly purchased.

Global Diversified Investment is also seeking US$607.897 million from Jho Low and Tan, and US$629.6 million from Jho Low, Tan, and Larry.

As the fifth plaintiff in the case, Global Diversified Investment is also going after Jho Low, Tan, and Goh for US$2 million as well as Jho Low, Tan, Larry, and Taek Szen for another US$25.5 million.

1MDB Energy Holdings, meanwhile, is claiming US$397.3 million. All five plaintiffs are seeking US$3.784 billion in total. – The Vibes, July 14, 2021
