KUALA LUMPUR – Another alarming set of images of deforestation has been shared online, this time involving suspected logging in Bentong, Pahang.

Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam Malaysia (Peka) president Puan Sri Shariffa Sabrina Syed Akil shared on Facebook a series of videos, one of which shows heavy machinery on-site.

She questioned how the Forestry Department is allowing such machinery and lorries to enter the Bukit Tinggi and Lentang Forest Reserves, which are located next to the Karak Highway, and the site of a landslide in 2015.

“Even if the land is owned by some Datuk Seri, the forest where the said activities are being conducted is considered fragile. We do not want another landslide to occur,” she told The Vibes.

“We will address this matter formally soon, but I want to urge the government to stop the destruction of our forests before unwanted incidents happen.” – The Vibes, September 13, 2021
