KUALA LUMPUR – The key agreements contained in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) inked between the government and Pakatan Harapan today include a deal on Parliament’s dissolution to make way for the 15th general election.
A well-placed source who was briefed on the document told The Vibes that PH leaders have agreed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob that the current Dewan Rakyat term will not end until July 31 next year.
“There are five major points that the two parties agreed on. The first is that there will be no parliamentary dissolution before July 31, 2022.
“At the same time, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be granted rights and privileges that are proper for the opposition chief, so that he may conduct his duties more holistically and effectively.”
The other areas agreed on include the allocation of an additional RM45 billion to the Covid-19 fund, making for a total of RM110 billion, and a RM10 billion cash assistance for 11 million recipients.
It was also decided that efforts will be made towards an interest fee exemption for bank loan moratoriums for the bottom 50% of Malaysians, for the last three months of 2021.
Ismail Sabri and PH this evening made history when the government and opposition inked an MoU on a slew of political reforms.
The ceremony took place in Parliament’s banquet hall, and political experts foresee a vast difference in the country’s political landscape.
The Transformation and Political Stability MoU covers six key points, namely Covid-19 plan enforcement; administrative transformation; parliamentary reforms; independence of the judiciary; Malaysia Agreement 1963; and, the formation of a steering committee. – The Vibes, September 13, 2021
