MIRI – It is up to the National Security Council (NSC) to decide if Sarawak can transition into the endemic phase of Covid-19, said Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The state is expected to complete vaccinating those aged between 12 and 17 by the end of October.

“Due to our rapid pace, we can complete our vaccination programme soon.

“We will consult the NSC so that they can decide on our endemic status,” he told a press conference after visiting the State Health Department’s vaccination centre for adolescents at Dewan Majma here.

Endemic means that Covid-19 will be classified as a long-term persistent disease.

Sarawak saw another 3,660 new infections, plus five deaths today, bringing the fatality toll to 656.

Kuching logged 1,541 new cases, Samarahan 268, Sibu 255, Serian 245, Bintulu 219, Miri 189, Bau 157, Asajaya 127, and several districts few dozens each. – The Vibes, September 16, 2021
