GEORGE TOWN – Penang police have busted an international drug trafficking syndicate with the arrest of six people including three foreigners during two raids in Barat Daya and Seberang Prai Selatan districts on September 20.
Its police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said that the authorities have seized 107kg worth of methamphetamines (syabu or ice) from a fishing boat.
“We seized 107kg of syabu from a fishing boat worth RM3.8 million, which was to be smuggled out to a neighbouring country.
“We arrested another local man in Seberang Prai Selatan for investigations.
“Our initial investigations revealed that the syndicate had started operations early this month,” he added.
Police have also seized two cars, two motorcycles and RM1,000 in cash from the suspects aged between 30 and 55 years old.
The suspects have been remanded until September 29 to facilitate investigations.
The seized drugs were sufficient to supply a total of 537,5000 addicts on the streets.
