KUALA LUMPUR – A landslide in Bangsar last night has caused concern.

Following heavy rain, soil had given way along Jalan Lingkungan Negri Sembilan and washed down on Jalan Limau Purut.

Several houses have been affected but, at press time, the extent of the damage cannot be ascertained.

Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil had tweeted about the incident last night.

“This is the second incident in the last few months. It is worrying indeed,” Fahmi said.

“Urgent mitigation by DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) needed,” he added.

According to a preliminary report by the Fire and Rescue Department, the soil slipped down from the shoulder of the main road along a 40m stretch at 7pm last night.

“The soil that gave way fell behind a residential house. There are four houses near the landslide,” it said.

The department has advised residents in the area to vacate their homes, saying the situation poses a danger.

Fahmi later told The Vibes that he has been onsite with officials from DBKL and the Public Works Institute (Ikram), as well as met neighbourhood residents.

He said remedial works will begin while Ikram takes about two to three weeks to issue a full report on the incident.

“Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) will enter the site to remove some cables. DBKL will install some tarpaulin or canvas to protect the exposed areas,” he said.

“In the meantime, I am requesting a full survey and inspection of Federal Hill by Ikram due to the frequency of landslips and sinkholes, ageing water and drainage infrastructure, and also due to some development taking place nearby,” he added. – The Vibes, October 24, 2021
