MIRI – Former Anglican bishop of Sarawak Datuk Bolly Lapok has officially joined Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) today, ahead of the upcoming 12th state election.

The 69-year-old joined the party following a ceremony at the PSB headquarters in Kuching.

PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh was on hand to welcome Lapok.

Wong said the move by Lapok to join PSB is an important milestone as it means the party will be able to reach out to more people in the community.

“We in PSB welcome him, and we want him to help us reach out to the community in our quest to bring about much needed changes to the society.

“We have seen the sufferings of the rakyat, especially in rural Sarawak.

“As such, we want to transform their future for the better.

“Lapok, with his vast experience in his community, can play an important role to achieve our party’s objectives,” he told a press conference.

Meanwhile, Lapok said he was drawn to PSB as he desires to see a better future for the rakyat.

“PSB is a multiracial party and appeals to all races and ethnic groups.

“They want to ensure a better Sarawak and I hope to contribute to their cause,” he said.

Lapok said it is not unusual for retired religious people to venture into politics, adding that the political arena can be used to bring about changes for the betterment of Sarawak – which continues to be behind other states in the country.
