GEORGE TOWN – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has claimed that the Transport Ministry has yet to approve the Kulim International Airport (KXP) project following a written reply by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong on the matter.

In a statement today, Chow said he had asked Wee through a written question in Parliament to state the rationale for the proposed construction of KXP, which lies close to Sg Muda.

In response, Wee stated that, until now, no approval has been granted to establish an aerodrome KXP project as provided under the Civil Aviation Regulations (Aerodrome Control) 2016.

Chow said he had also asked Wee to detail the warranties and actions of his party to avoid any accidents, accident-related issues, and release of waste related to the KXP project close to Sg Muda, as well as the “Aerotropolis” project, located just 6km from the face of the Lahar Tiang intake under the purview of the Penang Water Supply Corporation in Seberang Prai.

He said Wee in his reply stated that the final approval of the proposed KXP project will only be considered when the National Airport Strategic Plan study has been completed and there is compliance with all conditions set by other government agencies. – The Vibes, November 29, 2021
