GEORGE TOWN – Parts of Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas will be placed under the controlled movement control order (CMCO) from Friday until November 16 to check against the spread of Covid-19.
It will be the first time in five months that a locality on the Penang island is subjected to CMCO since the pandemic began in March,
Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin has reassured the residents in Bayan Bayu, particularly those in Mukim 12, to remain calm and not resort to panic buying or other unnecessary activities.
He added that there is ample supply of food and the people should abide by the CMCO guidelines.
Sim said essential travel such as for healthcare and work are permitted.
He urged the factory employers to allow the majority of their workers to work from home where possible although industries are allowed to operate.
The affected areas are Bayan Baru, Sg Ara, Batu Maung, Desa Ria, Pantai Jerejak, and Bayan Lepas Free Trade Zone phase 3 and phase 4
SK Bayan Baru, SK Seri Permai, SK Sg Ara, SK Seri Relau, SK Bayan Lepas, SK Bayan Lepas 2, SK Permatang Damar Laut, SK Batu Maung, SMK Batu Maung, SMK Bayan Lepas, SMK Raja Tun Uda, SJKC Wen Khai, SJKT Bayan Lepas and SMK Sg Ara are closed.
Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz has started a RM25,000 fund to help the night market traders who are forced to close during the CMCO.
