KUALA LUMPUR – Twelve areas in five states are placed on red (danger) alert, of which five are in Pahang, according to Public Info Banjir as of 9am today.
The affected areas in Pahang where rivers are showing an uptrend are Paya Gintong in Jerantut, Sg Serting in Jam Padang Gudang, Bera, and Sg Jelai in Jeti Lipis.
Meanwhile, Sg Lipis in Benta and Sg Luit in Kg Subuh, Maran are showing a downtrend.
However, waters in four areas marked as orange (warning) alert are showing an uptrend. They are Sg Pahang in Jerantut Feri and Temerloh’s Kuala Krau, Sg Jelai in Jeram Bungor (Lipis) and Sg Dong in Kg Peruas (Raub).
Selangor’s Sg Bernam in Rimba KDR, Sabak Bernam is also on red aler,t but has been showing a downtrend since 8.30am, while Sg Langat in Bukit Changgang (Kuala Langat) and Sg Bernam di Jambatan SKC (Hulu Selangor) are on yellow (caution) alert.
Negri Sembilan’s Sg Muar is showing an uptrend in two areas – Pekan Rompin in Jempol and Kg Berembang in Kuala Pilah. Measurements in Pekan Rompin as of 8.45am showed that the river level has exceeded the danger threshold by 4.11m.
Sg Segamat in Bandar Segamat, Johor is also on red alert and showing an uptrend while Sg Tangkak in Kg Seri Makmur – although on red alert – is showing a downtrend.
Similarly, Sg Melaka in Melaka Pindah has been showing a downtrend but the same river in Batu Hampar is exhibiting signs of an uptrend.
A check on the Social Welfare Department portal found a total of 7,426 flood victims in seven states, while 115 temporary relief centres (PPS) remain open.
Majority of them are in Pahang and Negri Sembilan with Pahang currently has 49 PPS housing 1,758 victims while Negri Sembilan has 16 PPS with 1,795 evacuees.
Johor now has 27 PPS housing 1,623 evacuees while Melaka opened 11 PPS for 1,161 victims.
Kelantan has five PPS with 308 victims, Sabah with five PPS and 644 evacuees while Terengganu’s last update was at 4.27pm yesterday with two PPS and 137 victims. – The Vibes, January 2, 2022
