KOTA KINABALU – The prime minister has given his word that flood victims in Sabah will receive the government’s compassionate aid.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said federal assistance amounting to RM1,000 for each family will arrive over the next few days.

A total of 28,287 heads of households affected by floods have received Bantuan Wang Ihsan, or the government’s compassionate aid, as of noon today.

The government had recently announced the Malaysian Family Flood Aid list, which includes channelling RM1,000 to each affected head of household, compared with only RM500 previously.

Ismail Sabri gave the assurance that Sabah flood victims will receive this aid during the post-North East monsoon flood disaster management task force special meeting, held virtually and attended by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today.

Hajiji noted that six districts in Sabah, namely Kota Marudu, Pitas, Paitan, Ranau, Sandakan, and Telupid have been affected by floods, with 2,345 people being placed in 23 shelters in these districts.

The state has received RM200,000 and awaits another RM 674,000 for financial aid for these victims. – The Vibes, January 3, 2021
