MIRI – Sarawak leaders must give a public account of how they spent RM5.3 billion in managing the Covid-19 pandemic last year, as announced by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
DAP’s Sibu MP Oscar Ling said the mega sum spent by ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak on managing the pandemic must be investigated.
He added that the public wants to know the details of the expenditure considering there were many cases and deaths in the state at the height of the pandemic last year.
“Deputy chief minister (Dr) Sim recently said (in an event in Kuching) that the state government had spent RM5.3 billion to deal with Covid-19, but I am sceptical.
“It was not in any state budget as far as I know. Was the money actually from the federal government? The public in Sarawak deserve to know the truth..
“How was the money spent? Where did the money go? Which ministry, which department?”
He alleged in a statement that the federal government had been spending billions on managing the pandemic.
Ling added that Dr Sim and the GPS leaders must promptly clear the air on the RM5.3 billion expenditure. – The Vibes, January 26, 2022
