KOTA KINABALU – Another three Covid-19 clusters involving schools have been reported in Tuaran, Keningau and Lahad Datu, with more expected to appear in days ahead.

In Sabah's daily Covid-19 update, state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said a 14-year-old student from SMK Tun Fuad in Tuaran is the index case in the Jalan Kiulu cluster.

“The boy was staying in the hostel and showed coronavirus symptoms on January 17. He was found positive after an RT-PCR test.

“Some 14 more people were found positive after close contact screening, and the Sabah Health Department believed that it was caused by association among students in the hostel.”

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old girl was the index case in the Puri cluster in SMK Keningau I.

Masidi said she started to show symptoms on January 20 and only informed the school on January 26.

Later, 18 more students were found positive after the school carried out self-test screening.

The third cluster is identified as the Jalan Terusan cluster, with the index case being a Form 1 student at SMK Terusan hostel.

“The 13-year-old began to show symptoms on January 20 and only informed the school on January 23.

“He was found positive via the RTK-Ag test carried out at the Lahad Datu clinic.

“Cumulatively, 10 students were found positive,” said Masidi, adding that the affected students are in Category 1 and 2 and are currently undergoing treatment.

The daily caseload today saw an increase, with 342 cases, up seven from yesterday.

The clusters account for 11.11% of the total daily cases.

The other school clusters reported this month were the Jalan Bypass Kologon cluster in Kundasang, Panda cluster in Putatan, Jalan Pertukangan cluster in Sandakan, Puri Ranau cluster in Ranau, Jalan Kepayan Lama cluster in Tambunan, Jalan Teritipan cluster in Kota Marudu, and Sri Balung cluster in Tawau. – The Vibes, January 27, 2022
