KUALA LUMPUR – The Yayasan Afdlin Shauki and the Vinod Sekhar Trust ushered in the Chinese New Year by bringing festive joy into the lives of those less fortunate in a modest yet highly meaningful event held yesterday.

Personally paying a visit to residents of the Air Panas public housing flats in Setapak here was beloved actor and producer Datuk Afdlin Shauki who together with his team brought along 150 packages of food and supplies which were all distributed among the residents.

“The recipients of the packages, each of which contained food such as rice and mandarin oranges, mostly came from the Chinese community.

“We also made sure that elderly people living in the area got a share as well,” the entertainment icon, who is also PETRA Vision Works chief executive, said, adding that he had also passed out angpow packets to residents.

Encapsulating the true spirit of the “Malaysian Family” where no one is left behind, much less during a time of celebration and joy, the charity effort was meant to help poor and financially challenged residents at the low-cost homes.

Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil, well-known among the people of Air Panas, also lent his presence to the occasion.

“I invited him to join me and he was more than happy to show up, especially seeing how he was once a familiar face in the Air Panas area when he worked under Setiawangsa (constituency) before moving on to Lembah Pantai," he said.

Afdlin added that Fahmi, who is also PKR communications chief, was glad to have the opportunity to meet some old friends in the area.

He also expressed his gratitude towards not only Fahmi but also to PETRA Group chairman and chief executive Datuk (Dr) Vinod Sekhar.

“I’d like to say thank you to Datuk Vinod for contributing to this event where we helped provide some light to the lives of those in our community,” Afdlin said on the collaborative effort in organising and successfully seeing the event through. – The Vibes, January 30, 2022
