KOTA KINABALU – A total of 32,047 or 7.79% of Sabah’s 411,000 children took their first jab under the PICKids programme in the state today.

The figure has tripled from eight days ago.

PICKids is the vaccination programme for children aged between five and 11 years old launched on February 3.

In his daily briefing, Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Sabah recorded under 4,000 new infections today, with 3,871 new cases, or a decrease of 435 cases.

“Although the numbers are lower, the number of new infections is still high,” he said.

13 Sabah districts are still reporting three-digit daily caseloads, with Kota Kinabalu being the highest with 735 cases, followed by Penampang 516, Tuaran 410, Tawau 338, Papar 320 and Sandakan 198.

Hospital bed occupancy rates stood at 72%, with 1,330 patients currently treated in hospitals that housed 1,841 beds.

The occupancy rate in the low-risk quarantine centres currently stands at 45.6%, with 1,022 patients and 2,289 beds in these facilities.

Overall, the occupancy rate of beds in various facilities stood at 55.01% with 75 patients under critical care, 53 in intensive care units and 22 in open wards.

There are also 76 patients under Categories 4 and 5, including the 14 Category 4 and seven Category 5 patients reported by Sabah health authorities today.
