KUALA LUMPUR – The Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centre (PKRC) at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS 2.0) in Serdang here reopened last Friday with a capacity of 850 beds.
Its director Dr Ferwahn Fairis Ab Karim, said the centre, which has been named the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre for the Central Regional Zone (PKRC ZWT) will only be taking in patients who are in Categories 1, 2A, and 2B.
He said PKRC ZWT will be giving priority to Covid-19 patients in three localities, namely Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Putrajaya.
Dr Ferwahn said the centre currently has 363 health workers and government agency staff to manage it following the spike in Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley.
“The reopening of the PKRC, which has been rebranded as PKRC ZWT, is to allow treatment for low-risk Covid-19 patients, and is a strategy in preventing the spread of the Omicron variant,” he said, during a media briefing at the centre today.
“As of the fifth day of operations, the cumulative number of Covid-19 patients who have received treatment here stands at 119 cases, of which 29 had been allowed to return home.”
The reopening of the centre comes less than a month after it officially closed on February 8.
At the time, National Disaster Management Agency director-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim said MAEPS PKRC 2.0 was closed due to a low number of patients admitted and economic costs.
Dr Ferwahn, who is also Serdang Hospital deputy director, said a total of 90 patients remained at the centre as of 2pm today.
He said 53 of the patients currently at the centre are women while 37 are men.
Dr Ferwahn also said the centre received assistance from the Fire and Rescue department, police, Rela, the Civil Defence Department, and the Selangor State Department.
“All the agencies involved have responsibilities according to their respective capacities, including security, sanitisation, transportation, and so on,” he said.
He added that although the PKRC ZWT prioritised patients from the Klang Valley, the centre was prepared to open its doors to patients from neighbouring states. – The Vibes, March 2, 2022
