KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia inches to another record high daily Covid-19 caseload, logging nearly 200 more cases than the day before with 33,406 infections, according to CovidNow data as of midnight. This also brings the national cumulative total to 3,595,172.
The 67 new reported deaths also brings the toll to 33,173, and of the new fatalities, 23 were classified as brought-in-dead.
The Health Ministry also recorded 11 fresh clusters – mainly workplace related (5), followed by three high-risk groups, two education and one detention centre.
The coronavirus continues to surge in Penang as the state logged an increase in cases to 2,621 and three new clusters.
Education clusters – Jalan Ibbetson has 62 cases with a positivity rate of 73.8% and Dua Jalan Tun Hamdan with 31 infections and a positivity rate of 7.5%. Penang also has a high-risk group cluster known as Lintang Nipah Satu with 32 cases and a positivity rate of 22.2%.
Consistently topping the daily caseload is Selangor and it inches closer to the 10,000 mark with 9,651 fresh infections while logging another three clusters.
The two workplace clusters are detected in industrial areas in Klang and Sabak Bernam. The Industri Batu 4 Jalan Kebun 2 cluster in Klang has 70 cases and a positivity rate of 7.6%, while Sabak Bernam’s Industri Jalan Bernam has 25 infections and a positivity rate of 9.4%.
The state also recorded a high-risk group cluster, Jalan Kristal Tujuh that has 17 cases and a positivity rate of 54.8%.
Negri Sembilan logged another two workplace clusters – Jalan Tech Valley Tiga with 53 cases and Industri Bunga Tg Tiga 2 with 33 cases.
Melaka’s Tiang Dua Bukit Lintang detention centre cluster logged 62 cases, while Perlis’ Industri Jalan Bukit Keteri workplace cluster had 27 cases, followed by Perak’s Jalan Dato Ahmad Yunus high-risk group cluster with 19 cases.
Coming behind Selangor in the daily caseload is Kuala Lumpur with 3,603 infections, followed by Kedah (2,946), Johor (2,713), Penang (2,621), Sabah (1,778), Pahang (1,619), Negri Sembilan (1,565), Kelantan (1,550), Perak (1,491) and Sarawak (1,455).
Five states that have less than 1,000 cases are Melaka (931), Terengganu (856), Labuan (267), Perlis (228) and Putrajaya (132).
Malaysia has recorded another 6,196 active cases, bringing the total to 311,206 patients. Of which, 298,532 are under home quarantine, 3,588 in low-risk treatment and quarantine centres, 8,715 hospitalised, while 145 are in need of intensive care and 226 with ventilators.
Another 27,143 recoveries were recorded, bringing the total to 3,250,793 cases.
The ICU bed usage in Kuala Lumpur surged to 73.1% from yesterday’s 58%, followed by Johor (72.9%), Kelantan (71.5%), Putrajaya (70%), Perlis (68.4%), Selangor (68.4%), Perak (65.7%), Penang (64.7%), Sabah (60.1%), Labuan (58.3%), Melaka (56.5%), Kedah (51.4%), Terengganu (50.8%), Sarawak (49.3%), Negri Sembilan (46.4%) and Pahang (38.1%).
Meanwhile, Kelantan is the only state with a ventilator usage of 51.2%, whereas others logged below that.
As for the daily death count breakdown, Selangor recorded 14 victims, followed by Kedah (12), Johor (10), Perak (8), Sabah (7), four each in Melaka and Perlis, three each in Kelantan and Pahang, and one each in Penang and Negri Sembilan.
