BUTTERWORTH – Two newspaper photographers managed to prevent a woman as she appeared to be ready to leap into the sea at an emergency stop along the Penang Bridge this afternoon.
In the incident at about 12.30pm, the two photographers, who were riding on a motorcycle from Butterworth to the island, spotted the woman standing on the ledge at KM3.4 of the bridge.
The duo – The Sun’s Masry Che Ani, 48, and The Star’s Ahmad Zhafaran Nasib, 38 – decided to stop and persuade the woman, who is reportedly in her 30s.
Recalling the incident, Masry said that the woman had suddenly moved forward and was about to jump.
However, the two media men acted quickly and managed to pull her down.
“After that, the woman sobbed. We then tried to persuade her, and contacted patrol police and Plus for help,” he told The Vibes.
Zhafaran said they took 45 minutes to calm the woman down while waiting for the authorities.
He said the woman is believed to have health and family problems, causing her to contemplate such a drastic action.
“We are trying to help the woman. Currently, police have taken her to the Penang Hospital in a patrol car for treatment.
“We hope she is safe and in good condition,” he said. – The Vibes, March 9, 2022
