KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Chief Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor is expected to launch Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) tomorrow afternoon.

The ceremony will be taking place at the Sabah International Convention Centre here.

This may indicate that KDM, which was formed by former Warisan vice-president Datuk Peter Anthony, will be part of the GRS ruling coalition but there has been no confirmation from the related parties.

Anthony departed from Warisan in December and formed KDM this year.

It was clear from the start that the Melalap assemblyman wanted his infant organisation to be part of the state administration which currently consists of ruling Sabah parties Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional and Parti Bersatu Sabah.

On February 26, Hajiji said that while he welcomes KDM’s intention to join the GRS alliance, it must first obtain support from the existing ruling parties.

From GRS members’ statements, Sabah PAS wants KDM to prove that it is free of corruption before being allowed to join GRS; PBS said KDM should prove its aspiration, motivation and contribution to GRS before it would be accepted into the alliance; while Sabah Star supports KDM joining the alliance.

Earlier this week, the press has reported that the organising chairman of the KDM’s launching ceremony, Datuk Juil Nuatim, said that only about 200 KDM members will be present at the ceremony to adhere to the standard operating procedures.

Juil, Limbahau rep who had left Warisan with Anthony, said that the party had also invited party presidents from GRS to the event. – The Vibes, March 12, 2022
