KUALA LUMPUR – Four individuals, including two directors of a road construction company, have been remanded for seven days, starting today, over the odour pollution in Sg Selangor that resulted in a water supply disruption yesterday.

The remand order against the four, aged between 33 and 44, were issued by magistrate Nur Hafizah Rajuni at the Selayang magistrates’ court here, following an application by police.

The two company directors are a 40-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man, while a Bangladeshi is among the other two suspects, both male.

They will be investigated under Section 430 of the Penal Code for “committing mischief that caused a diminution of water supply for human and animal consumption”, and face imprisonment of up to 30 years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Fadzil Ahmat said the suspects, aged between 33 and 43, were nabbed in Gombak, Damansara and Kelana Jaya between midnight and early today.

The Rantau Panjang, and Sg Selangor Phases 1, 2 and 3 water treatment plants were forced to halt operations yesterday after the pollution was detected.

The plants resumed operations at 2.40am today, with Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd saying supply will be restored in stages beginning 3pm.
