TWO policemen were seriously injured after being attacked with a knife by a man believed to be a drug addict while conducting an operation in Kampung Sungai Jernih, Ijok, Selama, Perak, yesterday afternoon.

In the incident at about noon, a constable suffered serious injuries to his face while a sergeant was injured in the head, arm and stomach after being attacked by the suspect, who acted aggressively while trying to arrest him.

Quoting sources, Harian Metro reported that the two officers from the District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) of the Selama District Police Headquarters (IPD) received information about the presence of a man suspected of being a drug addict in a hut in the village.

Following the information, they were instructed to conduct surveillance before proceeding to arrest the suspect, who is believed to be in his 30s.

However, the suspect fled upon realising the presence of the police at the scene.

One of the officers managed to arrest the man, but a struggle ensued before the suspect is believed to have pulled out a small knife and attacked the policemen involved.

"As a result of the attack, the constable suffered a long cut on his face from his forehead to his cheek, as well as injuries to his right arm.

"Another sergeant who tried to help his friend was also attacked and suffered injuries to his head, arm and upper abdomen," he said, as reported by Harian Metro.

After attacking the two policemen, the suspect fled to a nearby forest area.

The two police officers involved later sought treatment at the Selama Hospital Emergency Unit.

Following the incident, the police launched an operation to track down the suspect, including implementing Op Tutup on all routes in and out of the area.

So far, the suspect is still being tracked while further investigations are underway. – June 24, 2026
