KOTA KINABALU – Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) has lauded Umno’s reassurance to implement the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Its president Datuk Seri Anifah Aman who was present at the Umno General Assembly yesterday said he had taken note of Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s call for the implementation of MA63, saying the leader has not forgotten his promise.

“It was very reassuring to hear from Zahid the promise at the Umno General Assembly yesterday.

“PCS and all Sabahans are looking forward to the fulfilment of this promise,” he said in a statement here today.

The subject of MA63 had been heavily buried when Barisan Nasional (BN) was in power in Sabah.

Anifah was still an Umno member at the time.

Attempts to bring the matter to the state assembly were often rejected and practically unspoken of when the alliance held the state for two decades.

It was not until BN’s reign in Sabah was nearing its end that the topic was brought to mainstream politics in the state.

Anifah, one of the strong advocators of MA63, quit Umno in 2018 after the general election in the interest of Sabah rights.

It was during the Kimanis by-election in early 2020 when Zahid called for the full implementation of the MA63.

Zahid has renewed the party’s promise to make it happen once and for all during the Umno General Assembly yesterday.

The former foreign affairs minister believes Zahid was a man who would not betray his own words and revealed PCS is willing to work with any peninsula parties for the betterment of Sabah. – The Vibes, March 19, 2022
