KUALA LUMPUR – Losing the party deputy president race in May will not be a big deal for former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli as he is more focused on recreating the “aura” for Pakatan Harapan (PH) that had led to the winning of the 2018 general election.
“If we do not restore public support, it will not matter if I’m deputy president as PH and PKR are in dire straits.
“If something similar to what happened during the Johor polls repeats itself, then we will be in a terrible situation like how it was in 2004,” he said after the launch of the Ayuh Malaysia initiative late last night.
Present at the event were Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir and Tg Malim MP Chang Lih Kang.
The initiative also marks a major event since Rafizi announced in mid March that he would rejoin active politics by vying to be PKR deputy president in the coming party polls.
As for the Ayuh Malaysia campaign, Rafizi said he hopes to garner support from all political parties as an effort to encourage higher voter turnout in the next general election.
“I hope more parties will join Ayuh Malaysia in order to increase public awareness on voting. I don’t care who they vote for, but for them to exercise their voting rights,” he was reported as saying by Getaran, The Vibes’ sister portal.
On the implementation of the RM1,500 minimum wage, he said while there is a need for it, studies need to be done so its implementation is not immediate as it will negatively impact employers.
“Implement it according to locations such as in the Klang Valley or urban areas as cost of living is high there.
“While I support this, its implementation needs to be studied. For example, if it is also implemented in rural areas, it will affect the ability of employers to pay wages.” – The Vibes, March 27, 2022
