KUALA LUMPUR – Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has enthused on the usage of contact tracing app MySejahtera for travellers as the nation reopens its borders today.

Speaking to media at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) in Sepang, he said the smooth reopening today can be partly credited to the employment of the Traveller Card on the app.

“I spoke with a few tourists while I was walking around just now and they all said that there have been no problems with their travels. They told me that they found it very easy to use the Traveller Card in MySejahtera.

“The feature is very helpful, that’s why we have not seen any congestion at any of the entry points into our nation.”

He said that his ministry has instructed airline authorities to ensure that passengers have filled in and completed their Traveller Card before allowing them to board their flights, adding that the call is a step towards restoring the nation’s tourism and economic sector.

According to guidelines posted on the Health Ministry’s Facebook page, travellers who are fully vaccinated will receive a blue Traveller Card while those who are partially or not vaccinated will receive a red Traveller Card.

Over the week, MySejahtera has been embroiled in controversy following revelations in the Public Accounts Committee’s report released in Parliament, with questions raised over the true ownership status of the platform and data security of over 38 million users.

Yesterday, Khairy had said that the government had signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with the developers of the MySejahtera contact tracing app on April 1, 2020 to secure ownership of all user data.

He assured the Senate that all information obtained by the government is protected, and that it only uses data collected for the sake of managing the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that the app’s server is based in the AIMS Data Centre here and not overseas. – The Vibes, April 1, 2022
