MIRI – Sarawak PKR prefers to focus on its party polls in May before entertaining talks of an umbrella opposition alliance.

State PKR vice-chairman Roland Engan said in a statement that the party will only consider the suggestion after sorting out internal issues first, but agreed that it is important to have a united front against the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government.

Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said a special committee has been formed to look into an umbrella alliance of all opposition parties in the state in preparation for the 15th general election.

“We are open and willing to work with all those who aspire to fight against Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional and GPS.”

Two days ago, Sarawak PKR information chief Abun Sui said the party was not informed of the proposal.

“The talk is that such a meeting is being organised by the Sarawak DAP with opposition parties in this state. Sarawak PKR has not been officially informed," he had said in a statement. – The Vibes, April 7, 2022
