KUALA LUMPUR – “Do you have brains?” – that is the question Umno’s Datuk Seri Najib Razak has for Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal after the latter shared an old photo of the former prime minister with Rumah Bonda founder Siti Bainun Ahd Razali.

Clearly, Najib did not take kindly to Wan Fayshal sharing an old Facebook post that had a photo of him with the alleged child abuser who is currently facing two criminal charges.

“However, I did not choose the award recipient in 2016 and personally, I am not familiar with Siti Bainun. It is to ask the then Puteri Umno chief who jumped to Bersatu.”

He added that he attended the event in his capacity as then Umno president.

Najib also included a link to a 2021 Facebook post by Bersatu deputy women’s chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, who also appeared to distance herself from Siti Bainun.

Najib then made mention of Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, saying they were once in the same party and whether Wan Fayshal would thus make the same link.

“Your boss Muhyiddin was in my party at one point. Now you call me ‘perompak’ (thief). With that logic, would you link Muhyiddin to a ‘perompak’ because he was in my cabinet and party? Do you have brains?

“Just because I once attended an event sponsored by someone else, you want to link that to me?

“How did this tragedy suddenly become my fault during the 2022 fasting month?

“When will you link me to the Ukraine war?” he asked in another Facebook post and shared a photo he had taken with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Najib is not the only one distancing himself from Siti Bainun today.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also refuted speculation that Siti Bainun is being offered protection.

In a Facebook post, the former deputy prime minister said he regretted allegations by certain quarters linking him to Siti Bainun, as well as assertions that he is protecting her by offering her 10 defence counsels.

Recently, several social media users have associated Zahid with Siti Bainun after a picture of them together, with Zahid’s family, was circulated online.

Some have also alleged that Siti Bainun is the adopted daughter of the Umno president, which his daughter Nurul Hidayah Ahmad Zahid has rubbished through an Instagram posting last night.

Siti Bainun, 30, pleaded not guilty on two counts of abandonment and abusing Bella, resulting in the victim sustaining physical and emotional injuries in a condominium in Wangsa Maju here, between February and June 2021.

She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which is punishable by a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment or a RM50,000 fine or both.

The trial continues at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court this Wednesday. – The Vibes, April 17, 2022
