NIBONG TEBAL – A man and his wife have been arrested after they were believed to be distributing drugs mixed in an instant powder drink for sale at RM100 a packet.
The couple, aged 38 and 31, were arrested at their residence in Simpang Ampat here at 3pm on April 13.
Seberang Perai Selatan police chief Lee Chong Chern said police found 164 sachets of the instant drink mixed with Ecstasy-MDMA weighing 4.21kg worth RM210,494 at the couple’s residence.
The amount is large enough to be consumed by 851 drug addicts.
“Besides that, we also found Erimin5 weighing 7.66g, methamphetamine weighing 27.64g, ketamine weighing 5.42g, and four packets of ecstasy weighing 9.52g.”
“The couple is believed to have kept the drugs before handing them over to a middleman for sale,” he said at a press conference today.
Lee said the couple, who have a seven-year-old son, were arrested after another man had been detained that same day in Butterworth and revealed their activities.
He said police believe the syndicate had been operating for more than two years, and they market the drug-filled packets to customers at night clubs and wild party activities.
“We are still investigating where they process all the instant drinks containing the drugs,” Lee said.
“Further review also found that the couple has a past record related to drugs, in addition to being positive for methamphetamine and ketamine.”
Lee said police also confiscated a car, necklace, and two bracelets, all totalling RM252,016.
They were remanded until April 20 and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking in dangerous drugs. – The Vibes, April 18, 2022
