KUALA LUMPUR – The government has decided to increase the number of occupants allowed in a car from two to three under movement control rules, said Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The change in passenger limit was done three days after the government maintained the need for the “two-in-a-car” ruling in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“The National Security Council (NSC) has agreed to give some people some leeway. Especially families with young children who cannot be simply left at home and those with elderly parents,” he said.
He also announced the extension of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Labuan to December 6. It was supposed to have ended today.
“For now, a total of 1,035 cases have been detected in Labuan. The CMCO extension is needed to allow the Health Ministry to conduct more investigations in high-risk areas.”
Meanwhile, the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Kg Hj Baki in Kuching, Sarawak, will end today, as there have been no new cases reported in the area for the past seven days.
Ismail Sabri reminded Hindus in Malaysia to observe the stipulated SOPs for tomorrow’s Deepavali celebration, as well as to heed the inter-district and interstate travel ban, adding that police will patrol housing areas and villages to ensure compliance.
“Remember, no guests and visitors are allowed in EMCO areas. As for areas under the CMCO, only 20 guests can congregate at a particular time.
“In terms of prayers at temples, a maximum of 30 devotees are allowed in for each session, and each session must be followed by a 30-minute sanitisation exercise.” – The Vibes, November 13, 2020
