GEORGE TOWN – A food delivery rider was fined RM4,000 by the magistrates’ court here today for molesting a woman on April 20.

The accused, Muhammad Falihin Abdul Talib, 28, was sentenced after pleading guilty before Magistrate Nur Melati Diana Abdul Wahab.

According to the charge sheet, Falihin, who was riding a motorcycle at the time of the incident, had pressed himself closer to the victim, who was also riding a motorcycle near Jalan Bukit Gambir traffic light towards Sungai Nibong, at about 12.30pm.

The accused then committed criminal violence by groping the Indonesian woman’s breast.

Falihin was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine or whipping, or any two of those punishments.

Deputy public prosecutor Nazri Abdul Rahim appeared on behalf of the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer S. Bommy.

The accused’s lawyer appealed for a reduced sentence, as his client had a one-year-old child and is a single breadwinner.

He also added that Falihin’s wife was five months pregnant.

The magistrate then imposed a fine of RM4,000, or three months’ imprisonment on the accused in lieu of the fine. – The Vibes, April 27, 2022
