KUALA LUMPUR – Muslims in Malaysia will be celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri tomorrow, said Keeper of the Ruler’s Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.

He made the announcement at 8pm after the sighting of the new moon earlier today.

“In keeping with the command of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, following the consent of the rulers, I hereby declare that the date for Hari Raya Puasa for the states in Malaysia has been set for Monday, May 2, 2022,” he said.

This year’s celebration marks the first in-person Raya celebrations after various movement restrictions were put in place in 2020 and 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the government had eased several health SOPs, such as the mandatory use of masks outdoors and in open spaces as well as the scanning of QR codes at premises via the MySejahtera app.

Thailand and Indonesia have also announced they will be celebrating Aidilfitri tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Singapore Mufti Nazirudin Mohd Nasir today announced that the city-state would be marking the first day of Syawal on Tuesday, meaning that Muslims there will not be joining Malaysians in celebrating Hari Raya tomorrow. – The Vibes, May 1, 2022
