GEORGE TOWN – Putrajaya must upgrade the traffic system at three interchanges closest to the Penang Bridge as congestion worsens, said state Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

He added that the traffic congestion at Juru Autocity, Seberang Jaya and Permatang Pauh interchanges along the North-South Highway has a ripple effect on traffic flow here.

“We have discussed and proposed ways to improve the traffic dispersal system, which is causing congestion in the state, from the time before I was chief minister.”

Chow said this during the Penang Development Corporation’s Hari Raya open house at its headquarters in Bayan Baru today.

“We have also discussed it months ago, and the state wants a permanent solution for the longstanding traffic congestion in the state.”

Traffic congestion on the mainland and the island worsened after a fatal accident on the Penang Bridge at 5am today.

He added that recently he had raised the issue with state police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain to deploy more personnel at the congestion interchanges. – The Vibes, May 24, 2022
