KUALA LUMPUR – The government is offering free public transportation rides under the RapidKL system for one month beginning today, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, today.

In announcing this, Ismail Sabri said the free rides offered to the public which include RapidKL’s MRT, LRT, BRT, Monorail and RapidKL buses will be made available from today onwards.

He announced this during the launch of the Putrajaya Phase 1 line today.

In his brief statement, he expressed that the move comes in light of the government’s awareness of the people’s current burden over rising costs of living and food prices.

In his speech at the launch, Ismail Sabri expressed hope that Malaysians will take the opportunity to try these public transportation services and alternatively park their vehicles at Park n’ Ride facilities.

The Putrajaya line is being developed in two phases, spanning the areas between Kwasa Damansara to Putrajaya, and will accommodate close to two million users.

Phase 2 of the MRT line, he said, will focus on connecting “strategic areas” within Kuala Lumpur city centre such as Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Ampang Park, and the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX).

He also noted that comprising a total of 36 stations, with nine of them underground, the line will get four more stations in the future to enhance connectivity and accessibility between stations.

“The full opening of the MRT Putrajaya line is expected to see more than 104,000 users a day. It is hoped this would reduce the traffic congestion affecting KL,” he said. – The Vibes, June 16, 2022
