SHAH ALAM – The photographer and lawyer involved in an altercation at the high court here earlier today have personally resolved their conflict.
Speaking to The Vibes, Utusan Malaysia photographer Zulfadhli Zaki said that he lodged a police report at the Section 9 district police headquarters here against defence lawyer S. Suresh right after the incident took place.
He said that the report was made because the lawyer had forcefully grabbed his media card from the lanyard around his neck.
“I filed the report because the media card has my personal details on it and I was afraid he would use it to threaten me in the future,” he said.
However, right after his report was submitted, he said that S. Suresh had arrived to lodge his own police report and the two had apologised to each other.
“Both sides have said sorry and we have forgiven each other but we will be going through with our respective reports,” he said, adding that his media card will be handed over to the investigating officer in charge of S. Suresh’s case.
While both men have apparently expressed their regrets and accept the consequences, Zulfadhli said the incident should not have happened in the first place as he was simply carrying out his duties as a photographer.
“He (Suresh) had no authority to aggressively grab my personal belongings.
“He is a lawyer, not a bodyguard. I was just trying to do my job,” he said, noting that he had reacted by hitting the lawyer on the forehead with his camera in self-defence after his media tag was snatched at.
In videos of the scuffle which have since made the rounds on social media, Suresh was seen trying to push his way through the crowd of photographers while shielding his client, Samirah Muzaffar.
Samirah and two teenagers were acquitted by the high court here today of a charge of murdering then-Cradle Fund chief executive officer Nazrin Hassan.
Presiding judge Datuk Ab Karim Ab Rahman said the decision was made after the court found that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against Nazrin’s wife and both teenagers. – The Vibes, June 21, 2022
