KUALA LUMPUR – National para archer S. Suresh cruised into the finals of the Phuket Asia Para Archery Tournament 2022 in Thailand.
In the semi-final round today, Suresh who was crowned National Paralympic Sportsman at the 2019/2020 National Sports Awards (ASN) on Tuesday, eliminated the hosts’ Pornchai Phimthong 7-1 to advance to the world ranking event gold medal match.
The 28-year-old will be facing another hosts’ representative, Hanreuchai Netsiri, who recorded a 7-1 win against Sampath Bandara of Sri Lanka in the other semi-finals, tomorrow.
Suresh advanced into the last four stages after finishing second in the qualifying round with 611 points, while Netsiri took the top spot five points ahead.
Meanwhile, another Malaysian archer Julin Wiro is set to face Sakon Nkaew of Thailand in the men’s compound semi-finals tomorrow, while Nur Jannaton Abdul Jalil will be challenged by hosts Praphaporn Homjanthuek in the women’s compound semis.
Julin and Nur Jannaton will also pair up to face Homjanthuek-Comsan Singpirom in the mixed team compound event.
“The weather was quite hot and windy today, but I hope Suresh can be at his best physical and mental level tomorrow so that he can get first place.
