Court finds no evidence Anwar influenced police probe into alleged plot to topple government - November 3, 2026

TOH Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid and four others have failed in their bid to have a police investigation into an alleged plot to topple the government declared unconstitutional and unlawful.

The Kuala Lumour High Court dismissed their originating summons against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and the Malaysian government after finding insufficient evidence to establish that the investigation was maliciously influenced by Anwar.

Judge Datuk Indra Nehru Savandiah said the plaintiffs’ allegation that Anwar had influenced the police probe was based on assumption rather than evidence.

“The allegation that the police investigation was influenced by the first defendant (Anwar) is merely an assumption or perception, unsupported by any facts to establish malice.

“There is no link connecting the first defendant’s public statements with the independent investigation being conducted based on a police report,” he said.

The plaintiffs had sought declarations that the investigation under Section 124B of the Penal Code, based on a police report dated Feb 26, was unlawful and violated their fundamental rights under Articles 5, 8 and 10 of the Federal Constitution.

The provisions relate to personal liberty, equality before the law, and freedom of speech, assembly and association.

The suit was filed on March 6 by Na’imah, widow of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, her sons Muhammed Amir Zainuddin and Muhammed Amin Zainuddin, and family lawyers Amir Zharif Abdullah and Muhammad Nizamuddin Abdul Hamid.

The court made no order as to costs following a joint application by both parties. - November 3, 2026
