The government should draw on Shuhaily’s experience following his transfer from AKPS to the Home Ministry (KDN), rather than leave him sidelined.

FORMER Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain should be appointed to the special task force investigating financial crimes, particularly corporate mafia activities.

The proposal was made by Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad (PN-Machang), who said Shuhaily’s extensive law enforcement experience, including his previous stint as Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director, could be put to good use.

He said the government should draw on Shuhaily’s experience following his transfer from AKPS to the Home Ministry (KDN), rather than leave him sidelined.

“Since Mohd Shuhaily has been transferred from AKPS to the Home Ministry, for as long as he is facing charges in court, I propose that he be appointed as a member of this inter-agency task force to save government expenditure.”

“I am confident he can track down the cronies behind corporate mafia scandals. We should not sideline capable people like him and put him on ice at the Home Ministry,” he said.

Ahmad Fayhsal was speaking during the committee-stage debate on the Supply Bill 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier directed the Attorney-General to lead a special task force comprising several enforcement agencies to coordinate investigations into alleged corporate mafia activities.

The task force will involve the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and agencies responsible for enforcing the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA).

Ahmad Fayhsal said the task force should not require substantial additional funding or an increase in staffing at the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

He also urged the government not to sideline civil servants with proven records in fighting corruption.

“Do not mistreat outstanding civil servants who have done well in fighting corruption. That was what Tambun (Anwar) promised — no more looting (sakau).

“But when it comes to action, it does not match what was promised. I urge the government to accept our proposal because we share the same goal of fighting corruption,” he said. - November 2, 2026
