Floods hit 94 houses in Sik, Kedah

SIK – A total of 94 houses in three Mukim Sik villages and six Mukim Sok villages, all in the Sik district, were affected by floods following continuous heavy rain since 1am today.

However, according to the Malaysian Civil Defence officer in Sik, Haisul Aishah Mohd Napiah, no flood relief centres have been opened as the victims sought shelter at the homes of relatives and friends.

The affected villages in Mukim Sok are Kg Lentang, Kg Kuala Betong, Kg Belantik Dalam, Kg Surau, Kg Pinang and Kg Landai; while in Mukim Sik, the villages are Kg Lubuk Tualang, Kg Belimbing and Kg Jerai, she said when contacted by Bernama.

Haisul Aishah said the water started rising and entered the homes at around 1.20am.

She said currently the rain has stopped and the flood water in some areas has receded.

Meanwhile, Kedah Civil Defence head of disaster operation Saifuddin Abdullah said the flood also hit some areas in the Baling and Padang Terap districts.

The floods affected 42 houses in three villages on Baling, namely Kg Rambong Batu 7, Kg Charok Juan and Kg Bendang Sera; while in Mukim Siong, the affected areas are Lorong Jenalik, Lorong Tanjung Ara, Lorong Kg Paya, Lorong Kundur, Lorong Atas Bukit and Lorong Charok Pam.

In Padang Terap, seven houses were affected and they were in Ladang Sg Tekai, Mukim Naka.
