BUTTERWORTH – The remains of an 11-year-old boy who was feared to have drowned while bathing at the Bagan Ajam fishermen’s jetty, Pantai Bersih, yesterday was found stuck in a fishing net.

The body of Muhammad Mikhaeil Mukmin Abdullah was found by fishermen who also assisted in the search, at about 9.15am, today.

A spokesman for the state Civil Defence Force said the search and rescue operation, which saw the participation of the police, fire brigade and maritime police, began at about 8am after being postponed at approximately 7.30pm yesterday due to nightfall and bad weather.

“The body was sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for autopsy and the rescue operation ended at 9.40am,” he said.

Yesterday, The Vibes reported an 11-year-old boy has been lost at sea after bathing with three of his friends at the Bagan Ajam fishermen’s jetty at Pantai Bersih.

The victim was lost to the currents but his three friends were rescued by the public.

A fisherman who was at the scene tried to save the victim but he ended up nearly drowning before he was rescued by members of the public. – The Vibes, June 28, 2022
